It was mentioned for the first time in the 15th century under the name Tisno (narrow), due to the narrow channel separating the island from the mainland. The settlement was founded in the times of Turkish invasions to this region. The bridge was built at the beginning of the 18th century, and another, movable bridge was set in the 19th century.
Among the sacral monuments a special place belongs to the outstanding Church of Our Lady of Caravaggio – a votive church of a family of Italian settlers (the family Gelpi), built at the beginning of the 18th century and completed in the 19th century. Thousands of pilgrims from the whole Dalmatia visit the Church on 26th May, the day of the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
